Micromax has unveiled its LapTab tablet, which runs on both Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean OS. This release also marks the company's entry into the PC segment.
Micromax announced its foray into the computing segment with its Canvas LapTab, which was originally, conceived as Windows-Android dual-boot device that the company showcased at CES 2014.
Although in a different version from what was initially announced, Micromax finally brought the 2-in-1 device to India, TheIndianExpress noted.
The Canvas LapTab comprises of a Windows-powered tablet and a dockable keyboard and is priced at Rs. 14,999 (approx. $235). It will be available via Amazon.in starting May 6.
Running Windows 8.1, the Canvas LapTab has a 10.1-inch WXGA (1280x800p) IPS display and is engineered with Intel Atom Z3735F processor and is powered by 2GB DDR3L RAM. The device comes with 32GB storage as well as a microSD card slot. The Canvas LapTab boasts 2-megapixel rear and front camera and comes with a guaranteed upgrade to Windows 10.
According to IBNLive, the device is packed with a 7700 mAh battery and claims to offer around 10 hours of battery life.
As far as connectivity options are concerned, the Canvas LapTab supports a wide range of options, including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 2G and 3G. It features a sim card slot and sports a USB 2.0 port. The keyboard has 82 keys and a trackpad.
Noting the launch, Micromax Informatics Limited Chief Executive Vineet Taneja said that the company always believed in bringing the best in class and innovative devices to the consumers. Micromax always aimed to bridge the gap certain consumer device requirement and available device offering and, thus, the LapTab guarantees to bridge the same at a price that doesn't burn a hole in consumers' pocket.
Taneja said that the launch marks the company's entry into the PC space, further adding that Micromax will be launching a range of exciting products over the next few months in the category.
The LapTab seems to be an Intel reference design device just like the Croma tablet, Swipe Ultimate tablets and Notion Ink Cain.
