Disney Reveals Edgy 'Jack And The Beanstalk' Live Action Movie Directed By 'Breaking Bad' Creator Vince Gilligan; 'Dumbo' Movie Also In The Works Directed By Tim Burton

There have been countless retellings of the classic fairy tale of "Jack and the Beanstalk" in movies and television. However, a number of reports suggested that "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan is set to put his own spin on this time-old tale. Disney has bought the rights to Gilligan's version of the film.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Giligan's retelling of "Jack and the Beanstalk" is a revisionist one. However, the only concrete details on the film are the presence of a boy, a giant, a beanstalk, and some beans.

It has been reported that Emmy-award winning "Breaking Bad and "Better Call Saul" writer Thomas Schnauz is writing the screenplay for the film.

Screenrant has released a statement about revisionist retellings help studios like Disney double up on their money by capitalizing on pre-exisiting, tested properties such as "Cinderella" and "Jack and the Beanstalk."

The statement reads:

"Disney has been on live-action-adaptation spree ever since Cinderella hit the box office and was a critical and commercial hit ($458 million Worldwide), already announcing brand new installments of Dumbo, Mulan and Beauty and the Beast in an effort to double-dip with live-action versions of classic animated classics. While some will scoff at live-action adaptations of iconic cartoons, it's actually refreshing to see Disney has found a way to bring live-action fairytales back to the forefront, especially when their animated films ('Tangled,' 'Frozen' and Big Hero 6') are also performing well at the box office - with no sign of slowing down."

Back in 1947, Disney created an animated version of the beloved fairy tale called "Mickey and the Beanstalk" which features Mickey, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Willie the Giant. It has been said that the new live action movie will be on the "edgier" side, a trend that seemed apparent in Disney's latest films, including "Maleficent" and "Cinderella."

Aside from "Jack and the Beanstalk," Disney also recently announced that it's working with Tim Burton to re-make the classic film, "Dumbo" and give it a more interesting spin. Burton has always been known for his quirky style, evident in the recent slightly darker version of "Alice in Wonderland" starring Johnny Depp.
