WWE fans rejoice! All three members of The Shield will be competing for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Payback.
Dean Ambrose is headed to the main event at Payback making it a full Shield reunion in the World Heavyweight Champion bout.
Last week WWE Universe voted for a Triple Threat Match with Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Payback and now, 'The Lunatic Fringe' has crashed the party.
Ambrose was added to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Payback on Monday night RAW on May 4 after defeating Seth Rollins. This makes the title match a fatal four-way between Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Randy Orton, according to DigitalSpy.
"I've got two very generic things that I want to impart on you and the WWE Universe right now," Ambrose told Renee Young backstage.
He further noted that sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time.
Some speculation on Wrestling Observer Radio hinted that either Roman or Dean will turn heel and join The Authority to assist Rollins in retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Citing the backstage segment between Kane and Rollins where Kane assured Rollins that he had a plan after Ambrose was added to the match, both Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez speculated that someone would be helping Rollins win the match.
Meltzer, however, is certain that the World Wrestling Entertainment won't be turning Reigns heel anytime soon, which implies Ambrose will be the one most like to turn during the match, Inquisitr noted.
Despite the fact that Ambrose has been one of the most popular superstars on WWE's roster since The Shield's demise, he has not reached the main-event level like Rollins and Reigns have, and a heel turn at Payback might be just what he needs.
Ambrose in the past has said that he never imagined himself as a babyface, and he strongly prefers being a heel. Moreover, during Kane's tirade weeks ago on RAW, he claimed that The Authority made Seth Rollins the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and they could've done the same thing with Dean Ambrose if they wanted to.
Perhaps, there was some foreshadowing there.
The idea behind Ambrose joining The Authority could lead to Rollins being kicked out of the group in favor of Ambrose at some point in the distant future.
According to some speculation, during the fatal four-way match at Payback, the former Shield members will team up against Orton to take him out of the match, thus only leaving Rollins, Ambrose and Reigns to do battle.
It will be interesting to see all three of the former members of The Shield square off against each other for the first time.
As of now, Rollins is the strong favorite to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Payback.
