The CW has renewed the "iZombie" for Season 2 and the network's decision is hardly a surprise.
The renewal was expected as the offbeat adaptation of the comic book series of the same name was well received by critics and is also venerated creatively by the network's brass, who likes the opportunity to be in business with Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars), and believe in the breakout potential of Rose McIver, according to DeadlineHollywood.
With "Arrow" and "Flash" both going strong and plans for another DC spin-off show steadily making headway, The CW has earned its spot as the home of comic book adaptations over the past year.
Rose McIver as "iZombie's" lead, Olivia "Liv" Moore, is enjoying a steady career path and a perfect fiancé until a last-minute decision to attend a boat party changes her life forever. An abrupt zombie virus outbreak kills almost everyone on the boat. Liv finds herself in a body bag and realizes that she's a zombie who must eat brains to keep herself from becoming ferocious. Luckily for her, there's a job opening at the local morgue.
Liv eventually realizes that with every brain she consumes, she absorbs a part of that person's memories, and she begins to experience visions from the point of view of murder victims. This gives her undead existence a purpose to help solve the murders of those who are fully dead.
"iZombie" has sometimes been The CW's third highest-rated series of the week, only beaten by "Arrow" and "Flash," IGN noted.
"iZombie" is based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and is published by Vertigo imprint (DC Entertainment). The series is executive produced by Thomas, Ruggiero-Wright, Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge.
On Thursday, May 14 The CW will announce their 2015-2016 lineups, including what timeslot to expect "iZombie" in for second season.
"iZombie" airs Tuesdays at 9PM on The CW.
