The Nubia Z9, featuring an array of awe-inspiring features, is officially here and it's everything a user expects it to be, and more.
Last month Oppo showed off its near bezel-less prototype phone, however local rival Nubia has released a handset that boast the same optical stunt on the edge.
Dubbed the Z9, the handset was made official in Beijing Wednesday May 6 and it definitely lives up to the hype. The actual feature people were hoping and waiting for is very much present.
GSMArena noted that the Z9 features a 1080p, 5.2-inch 2.5D panel, encompassed by a very thin reflective bezel, which creates an optical illusion of an edge-to-edge screen. Only 0.8mm, the bezel in question adopts clever optics to reflect the screen image. This is akin to what people expected to see in an upcoming Oppo handset, however the Nubia Z9 is a true plenipotentiary of state-of-the-art technology and visual style.
In addition, this dual-Nano SIM flagship device packs a Snapdragon 810 chipset and either 32GB of storage with 3GB RAM (black "Classic Edition") or 64GB of storage with 4GB RAM (gold-colored "Elite Edition").
That said, the real treat is the "Frame interactive Technology" (FiT), which facilitates grip and gesture-based control on the aluminium mid-frame, according to Engadget.
With FiT, user can quickly unlock the Z9 wih a pre-defined grip, however that is not as safe as the good old passcode or even fingerprint recognition on the forthcoming "Premier Edition. With the usual single-hand grip, users can switch between apps by simply flicking their thumb up or down the metallic frame. User can also toggle the camera simply by holding the phone horizontally with four fingertips. Moreover, user can also adjust the screen brightness by sliding their fingertips along both sides of the phone.
The off-contract "Classic Edition" Z9 is priced at 3,499 yuan ($560) and the "Elite Edition" will cost 3,999 yuan ($645). There will be a 4,499 yuan ($725) "Premier Edition" for those who want that fingertip reader on the power button. Preorders of all three versions of Nubia Z9 i.e. CNY3,499, CNY3,999 and CNY4,499 have already started in China.
Another good one is that user can squeeze the phone twice to toggle single-hand mode, and the smaller screen will automatically shift to user's thumb's side; but user can also set this squeeze action to taking screenshots.
Nubia welcomed third party apps to make use of the Z9's FiT technology, thus the possibilities are endless.
