Patrick Dempsey was reportedly fired from “Grey’s Anatomy” after having an “inappropriate” affair with a younger woman working on the set.
According to In Touch Weekly, via Miami Herald, Patrick Dempsey was axed from the series not because of his alleged diva attitude but because he was having a secret affair with a much younger crew member.
"[His co-star] Ellen Pompeo found out and was angry because she's close friends with [Dempsey's wife] Jillian, so of course, told her," the insider revealed. "Patrick found out that Ellen told his wife about the relationship and totally lost it. They had a huge blowup on the set in front of everyone."
It was said that Ellen pushed show creator Shonda Rhimes to fire the actor because of his inappropriate behavior. Rhimes reportedly gave in to her wishes saying that "she has no patience for that kind of behavior."
Based on his contract, Patrick Dempsey was supposed to have more episodes lined up, however, the showrunners decided to kill his character because they "didn't want him causing trouble."
According to an insider close to Patrick Dempsey, he and his wife have been having problems and a divorce could be happening soon.
"Patrick had an inappropriate relationship with a young woman who worked on the set. There was tension in Patrick and Ellen's relationship for years before the final blowup. [She] was sick of his behavior on and off set," the souce added.
Meanwhile, when the actor was asked about the decision to write off his character, Patrick Dempsey revealed that he had no hard feelings about leaving the show. He added that there was no bad blood between him and the producers.
"It just sort of evolved. It just kind of happened. [Being written off] was something that was kind of surprising and uh, just naturally came to be. I like the way it has all played out," he said on Entertainment Weekly.
"Things happened very quickly... It was just a natural progression, the way the story was unfolding, the way everything was unfolding in a very organic way. It was like, 'Okay! This was obviously the right time.'"
