Jeremy Lin is the first Taiwanese-American to make it in the NBA and with Linsanity, the whole storyline revolved around the underdog story anchored on his Asian descent. And the Los Angeles Lakes point guard hated it.

In an interview with Asia Society, Jeremy Lin said that early in his career, he felt frustrated when he thought nobody was focusing on his basketball play in favor of the feel-good stories relating to his success in the NBA being Asian.

"But as I get older I appreciate the fact that I have a unique voice and perspective. I hope to eventually be a strong voice to the world on behalf of Asian Americans," the Los Angeles Lakers point guard said, adding that he has no problems talking about his heritage now.

The whole Linsanity exploded because no other Asian-American was doing what he did when he set the NBA by storm by averaging a little over 27 points in his first start for the New York Knicks when Carmelo Anthony went down.

During that magical 15 days, he averaged 25 points and 9 dimes and his ability to break down defenses allowed him to get to the line eight times.

"I think it was a big deal because in many ways it was groundbreaking for people to see an Asian American in the NBA. People didn't expect me to succeed," Jeremy Lin said of his Linsanity days.

"I think it is definitely still a big part of me and my career to this day, the most obvious being how unbelievable and devoted my fan base is through the highs and lows of my career."

However, the Los Angeles Lakers point guard now recognizes the unique platform he is now where he can become the voice for others.

"Many people see me as much more than a basketball player and I hope I can use this platform to glorify Christ as well as break down stereotypes of Asians," he explained.
