Is “Modern Family” cancelled or renewed? The season 6 finale might have seen a dip in the ratings, but the mockumentary is still ABC’s top-rated series, raking in a 3.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.40 million total viewers, according to TV Series Finale.
"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara revealed that she has always been hearing news about the ABC series being cancelled. Speaking to E! News, the "Hot Pursuit" actress revealed that she gets "very sad" just thinking of the series coming to an end.
"I get very sad because it's my favorite thing to do of work. It's so easy," she said. "We know the set. I know the character so well. Ed O'Neill is amazing. I'm going to be very sad."
Since "Modern Family" premiered in 2009, the show has gotten quite a huge following. Modern Family pointed out that the series was able to keep its audience since its debut. Season 6 might have hit a rough patch as it experienced quite a dip in the ratings game, but it still managed to attract 11.38 million viewers which is merely 3 million less that its most watched premiere in 2011. It's safe to say that ABC would not be cancelling the show anytime soon.
Early this year, creator Steven Levitan admitted that they are still unsure of how the series finale would go. Speaking to Deadline, he said that their utmost priority is to maintain the quality of the series while making it enjoyable. He said that they are only trying to take things one step at a time.
"There is not really an end game. We well keep going, but if we have the gut feeling that it's time to stop, we will shut it down," he said.
Levitan perceived that "Modern Family" could still run for at least another three or four years.
