Windows Phone fans rejoice! A new flagship Lumia from Microsoft has just made an appearance.

Nearly a year after the last flagship Windows smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 930 was launched, the platform has been due for a new addition.

If rumors doing rounds are anything to go by, a new device spotted at the GFX benchmark database is the new flagship smartphone of Microsoft and NokiaPowerUser had the most extensive spec leak to date.

Though the site noted it's not sure whether the 940 XL name will stick for launch, it definitely seems more confident with the specs.

When compared to Apple's Mac OS X, the tech giant's Windows OS dominates the desktop OS market segment. Apple's Mac OS X runs on the company's laptop and desktop lineup. That being said, Microsoft's smartphone OS market share is nearly non-existent.

As of Q1 2015, the web giant Google's Android smartphone OS holds a 78 percent market share, Apple's iOS holds 18.3 percent while Microsoft's Windows Phone holds only 2.7 percent, according to records on Tech Times.

As far as the specs are concerned, the Lumia 940 XL packs a 5.7-inch QHD display, octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of storage, 20 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front snapper, microSD slot and a slim, metallic unibody design.

Judging by the specs, the Lumia 940 XL will compete with the Sony Xperia Z3+, LG G4, HTC One M9, and Samsung Galaxy S6.

In addition, the report also suggests the 940 XL will boast iris scanning tech, along with a USB-C slot, which will allow users to plug the charger in either way just like Apple's Lightning connector. It will reportedly arrive with Windows 10 on board.

The reason behind any top handsets not running Microsoft's software over the past few months is that the manufacturers are waiting for the new version to arrive. Despite the fact that there's no information about the Lumia 940XL handset launch, there is a possibility that it could well coincide with Windows 10 when it lands on July 29.
