"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 spoilers revealed that Shonda Rhimes was being pressured by fans to hire a new male doctor following the death of Derek Shepherd.
According to "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 spoilers from Christian Post, the ABC executives are currently "looking to add a major new male presence" in an effort to appease fans who are still disappointed over Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) death. It was mentioned that the producers are looking for a "good-looking, charismatic, and believable as a surgeon" actor.
Because of this announcement, several fans have speculated that the new doctor would play as Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) love interest. Following the news of her series' partner's death, Pompeo took to Twitter to share her two cents on the demise of Derek.
"There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy," she posted, via Us Weekly.
"Husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children. People who get up each day and do what feels like is the impossible. So it is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the store of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible."
Meanwhile, Kdramastars previously reported that Patrick Dempsey himself was also surprised by Shonda Rhimes decision to kill of his character. The actor, however, was quick to add that there was no bad blood between the two of them and only wish the show well. He added that he would definitely miss the bond he shared with his co-actors, particularly Ellen Pompeo, whom he had worked with for more than a decade.
"Things happened very quickly, where we were like, 'Oh this is where it's going to go,'" he recounted.
"It just sort of unfolded in a very organic way. I don't remember the date. It was not in the fall. February or March. It happened very quickly."
