The "Lucifer" TV show has gained the disapproval of several Christian groups even before its release date has been announced. Protesters claim that the latest Fox series would "glorify Satan."
As reported by Metro UK, Christian group, One Million Moms have created an online petition urging Fox to cancel "Lucifer" TV show. The petition, which has over 16,000 signatures, appealed to the network to discontinue the show as it would serve as a bad example to viewers, especially to children.
The petition reads:
"FOX has plans in 2016 to air "Lucifer, 'a new series which will glorify Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh.'
The series will focus on Lucifer portrayed as a good guy, 'who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell.' He resigns his throne, abandons his kingdom and retires to Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.
At the same time, God's emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld.
Previews of the pilot episode depict graphic acts of violence, a nightclub featuring scantily-clad women and a demon."
The release date for "Lucifer" has yet to be confirmed. Fox, however, announced that the series premiere will air early 2016. The new series is reportedly based on Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" which follows the story of Satan as he moves to Los Angeles to help police fight crime.
"Lucifer" stars Tom Ellis, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Lauren German and Rachael Harris.
The official synopsis of the upcoming series reads:
"Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things - wine, women and song - when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy?"
