In the biggest match of his career, TNA Wrestling star Rockstar Spud faced Kurt Angle for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
The "Underdog" Rockstar Spud has been told that he'd never do a lot of things in pro wrestling, nor will he be able to sign with a major company or be on a major TV program and in no way he would ever challenge for a World Title. The critics for the 5-foot-4, 159 pounds Spud were endless, DenOfGeek noted.
During a special TNA Impact Wrestling titled Destination-X, on Wednesday, June 10, 9 p.m. ET, Destination America, Rockstar Spud challenged for his first world championship as he wrestled the Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle for the TNA World Heavyweight Title.
Spud earned the opportunity by trading in his XDivision Championship for a shot at the World Title last week.
Usually, under more realistic situation, Spud would not even last 20 seconds in the ring with the reigning champion Kurt Angle, on this night; he actually gave Angle a competitive match, according to reports on Philly.
No doubt, Spud knocking one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Kurt Angle, off his feet is quite unrealistic; however it somehow worked in the world of TNA.
About four minutes in, Spud threw a series of punches at Angle and even dodged him when he charged. Wisely playing on Angle's history fo neck injuries, Spud went on to the top rope and then flipped on to the back of Angle's neck. When Spud went to the top rope the second time, Angle ran up the ropes and suplexed him.
Spud threw running kicks at Angle, until he caught him in the painful ankle lock, but Spud rolled out of the ankle lock. He then went for The Underdog finisher, but Angle avoided that.
Angle eventually re-applied the Ankle Lock and Spud finally tapped out.
Angle helped Spud to his feet and raised his hand.
Angle in the main event with Austin Aries put on a very good performance as Aries cashed in his Feast or Fired world title opportunity. Ethan Carter III ran down after the match and attacked Angle, further adding fuel to their rivalry.
