Sony officially revealed the next Hitman game, simply dubbed "Hitman" at its E3 2015 press conference on Monday, June 15.
The player takes on the role of deadly killer called Agent 47, who is at the prime of his career, and is on the mission to gun down high profile targets. Taking along Diana Burnwood, who faked her death in the last game and the ICA, Agent 47 travels around the world for the action-packed ride.
In a short trailer Agent 47 can be seen running through a forest as he takes out a target with a sniper rifle, IGN noted.
The world-reveal video didn't feature gameplay as publisher Square Enix elected to rather portray the game's theme via a cinematic trailer.
Square Enix has not revealed many details about the new Hitman game though it was first mentioned in January last year. Developer IO Interactive had already affirmed that the game will represent "a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career," and also confirmed that it will ship on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Based on the comments made by IO Interactive back in 2014, the new Hitman game is anticipated to retain the "core" of the series, in as much as players can use a "wide range" of tools to take out a diverse group of targets on a global scale.
The game will run on a form of the Glacier 2 engine, GameSpot noted. The Glacier 2 engine also powered 2012's Absolution."We're packing in an extreme level of detail on the largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game," IO Interactive noted at the time.
"We've adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing, and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves."
A PS4 exclusive beta is up for grabs for customers who preorder the game. In addition, those who preorder will also receive six exclusive contracts within the first year of the official release. The new Hitman is not yet associated with a release date.
