Get ready for a smartphone like no other! Fairphone will soon launch its modular, environment-friendly smartphone called Fairphone 2 that allows users to replace internal components in a snap.

A new smartphone from Fairphone is scheduled to come out later this year. The Netherlands-based company plans to take the "unethical" practices out of the creation of aeon's most widely used piece of electronics.

The original Fairphone sold a modest 60,000 units, nothing to shout about but enough to fund a second device. Dubbed Fairphone 2, the company posted the details of the new smartphone in a blog post.

Fairphone's second-generation handset sports a modular design, enabling its buyers to swap out older components without having to buy a new phone, Engadget noted.

The Fairphone 2 is the company's first all in all original device, crafted with an intention to end the bi-annual cycle of buying a new phone.

Each of internal modules is autonomous, which means that when a user wants a camera upgrade, for example, it should be possible for a user to simply install it. Likewise, when it's time to replace display, user can simply pull away the Gorilla Glass-coated 5-inch screen and digitizer module and screw in a fresh one.

Hardly any component has been glued or soldered in.

In addition, Fairphone has made its new smartphone extra-rugged against drops and moisture, and even unified the phone with a protective case so that users don't have to buy one.

Contrary to many of its modern rivals, bits of the Fairphone can be extracted and repaired or even upgraded at home with a screwdriver, NBC News noted.

Fairphone 2 is not as fancy as Google's Project Ara, which the Web giant announced a few weeks ago at the I/O 2015 developer conference; however it minimizes repair costs, unlike Project Ara that focuses on maximum versatility.

Fairphone 2 won't be available to buy until Fall, and even then it will be just coming to Europe before United States.
