Streaming device Netflix wants to compete with the big boys with a lot of star power as the streaming service reportedly paid Brad Pitt $60 million for a new project. The news came in the wake of the nasty rumor that the "Fight Club" actor and wife Angelina Jolie are hounded by financial troubles.

In a previous report from OK! Magazine, the couple's luxurious lifestyle has put a strain on the finances and also fueled the divorce rumors hounding Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The article claimed, "Traveling all over the world in private jets and owning multiple mansions is bound to set back Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie millions. But despite their high-paying salaries, could their luxurious lifestyle cause the A-listers to be $35 million in debt?"

"The Pitt-Jolie homes include a $40 million mansion in Italy, a $60 million chateau in France, a $1.7 million home in Los Angeles and a New Orleans house that is currently on the market for $6.5 million."

But if the rumor about the couple's financial woes are true, then the Netflix project seemed like manna from heaven.

In a report from The Hollywood Reporter Netflix is willing to bankroll a very expensive project that Brad Pitt and Plan B have envisioned based on "The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan" by the late Michael Hastings.

Brad Pitt will star as Gen. Stanley A. McChyrstal, who resigned after mocking Vice President Joe Biden and officials in the Obama administration.

The problem, however, was that the film wasn't to be a drama but rather a satirical comedy, which makes it rather risky.

But a source told THR that Netflix is willing to pay $60 million for Brad Pitt to continue on with the project.

"It's great for the specialty film business, since people might be more willing to see challenging, liberal-leaning material in the comfort of their own home [rather] than in a movie theater," the source said. "More people might actually see the movie this way."
