Micromax launched the Canvas Silver 5, and the company claims that the phone is the slimmest (end-to-end) as well as the lightest LTE device mobile segment.
Micromax has announced the launch of the Canvas Silver 5, its new flagship which according to the company is the thinnest and lightest phone in the world. Despite the fact that there are several phones that are thinner, Micromax states that the Canvas Silver 5 is the only phone that is 5.1mm thin end-to-end, devoid of camera bumps.
In addition, the Canvas Silver 5 weighs only 95 grams, making it the lightest phone.
Every component of the Canvas Silver 5, according to Micromax CEO Vineet Taneja, was being streamlined in order to be thinner and also save battery life, nevertheless, the phone has an expensive price tag of Rs. 17,999 (about $283), which might not work in its favor, The Indian Express noted.
Taneja noted that the 4.8-inch AMOLED screen with a unified touch panel along with the ultra-thin PCB makes the phone much slimmer. Moreover, the device is housed in an aircraft grade aluminum frame, making it extremely light.
The Canvas Silver 5 claims to be lightest 4G device.
Powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snap dragon 410 processor, the Canvas Silver 5 features an 8MP rear camera with a Sony IMX219 sensor and blue glass filter and a 5MP front snapper. The device runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system.
In terms of storage, the smartphone comes with 16GB of internal storage without any provision for storage expansion, and this again might prove to be an obstacle as far as the phone's popularity and sale is concerned.
According to records on Times of India, the Canvas Silver 5 runs on Snapdragon 410 chipset, backed by 2GB RAM. The single-SIM smartphone is Micromax's second 4G phone. The Silver 5 comes with a 2,000mAh lithium polymer battery which according to Micromax offers a 1 day battery life on regular use case.
Micromax claims that the use of AMOLED display, along with stacked sensor camera makes it possible to reduce power consumption.
No doubt, the Canvas Silver 5 looks great, but it will compete with the likes of OnePlus One, Lenovo Vibe X2, Gionee Elife S5.1, among other smartphone makers that offer thin phones at a comparatively lesser price.
That being said, it looks like the price point of Rs. 17,999 (about $283) is where the phone might face a challenge.
