Will Rey Mysterio Join TNA? President Dixie Carter and John Gaburick Reportedly Discussing Potential Deal With 'The Biggest Little Man'

TNA reportedly is reportedly trying to sign Rey Mysterio as Dixie Carter and John Gaburick discussed a potential contract with the former WWE world champion.

While several rumors doing rounds suggested that TNA superstars including "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, AJ Style, Samoa Joe among others are in talks to join the WWE, it looks like a former WWE superstar is engaged in talks with TNA to possibly become a part of their roster.

This is not the first time reports of TNA trying to sign a WWE superstar has surfaced.

After trying to sign several WWE superstar in the past year including Edge, Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) and CM Punk, the professional wrestling promotion is now reportedly trying to sign another former WWE Champion, Rey Mysterio, according to reports on Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Lords of Pain).

Oscar Gutiérrez Rubio, who is better known by the ring name Rey Mysterio Jr., was officially granted his release from the WWE in February of this year. He has since then returned to Mexico and is wrestling for several promotions on the independent circuit.

TNA president Dixie Carter and John Gaburick, executive vice president of TNA Wrestling, reportedly met with Mysterio last week to discuss a potential contract. Carter and Gaburick pushed the idea that they could get Mysterio's merchandise into stores, thus opening doors for him to do movies and TV work. Moreover, one of the ideas they pitched was that they would build around him as TNA's long sought-after Mexican superstar.

But that's not all, TNA is also willing to allow Rey Mysterio to work anywhere else he wanted to on his off days.

However, considering that Rey Mysterio just turned 40, building anything of long term value with the popular wrestler may not be a good idea. Moreover, Rey's body has been battered as a result of the injuries he sustained, which implies that he might not be able to handle a regular wrestling schedule, Inquisitr noted.

It looks like TNA is pitching a lot to Rey, especially getting movie and TV roles for "The Ultimate Underdog." Talents such as Kurt Angle can get indie roles because of their names; however TNA doesn't have those kinds of connections or a history of doing stuff like that.

Though Mysterio has worked on several indy shows in the US and Mexico, he has not worked on TV since leaving WWE. Nevertheless, he was on TV regularly for nearly 20 years in WWE, WCW and ECW and is still a big name despite the fact that his bad knees have slowed him down. There's also a chance that Rey Mysterio will eventually sign with Lucha Underground.
