"Scandal" fans may have just gotten more excited to see Olivia Pope back in action as the season 5 premiere date of the Shonda Rhimes political thriller series was announced.

Josh Malina who plays David Rosen on "Scandal" announced that the season 5 premiere date will be on Sept. 24. "#Scandal Season 5 will premiere on September 24, a full 24 hours after the conclusion of Yom Kippur. See you there, sin-free!" Malina wrote in a tweet. Many "Scandal" fans have been expressing excitement for season 5 on social media, saying they can't wait till the premiere date comes.

"Things were left a little heavy at the end of Season 4, what with the truth coming out about Operation Remington and B613, Olivia and Fitz reuniting, Jake's goodbye... it was an emotional one," Jennifer Still of Bustle wrote. "But things were still left pretty up in the air for how Season 5 will turn out, and no doubt the show's return will bring us a whole lot of new drama that needs to be dealt with, and NOW."

One of the main plot speculations is whether or not Huck, played by Guillermo Diaz, would still be returning in season 5. And if so, whether he will still be an ally of Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington.

Fans have also been speculating about what will happen to Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) and Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) after being kicked out from the White House by President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn). Vine Report says new Chief of Staff Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) could be making things complicated for the other characters on the upcoming season.

And another important question for fans who are on Team Jake: Will Captain Jake Ballard, played by Scott Foley, be returning next season despite him saying goodbye to Olivia during the season 4 finale? Fans will have to wait for "Scandal" season 5 premiere date to find out.
