She may not have a regular job, but Kate Middleton is purportedly bagging huge income from the British monarchy.
According to E! Online, Prince Charles reportedly gave around $4.6 million to sons Prince William and Prince Harry, and daughter-in-law Kate Middleton as their allowance for "official activities" during the past year. This was chronicled in the Annual Review of the Clarence House where the expenditures of the future king and his wife Camila were reported.
According to People, the $4.6 million allowance purportedly does not account for the costs of refurbishments at Anmer Hall, which serves as William and Kate's country home. The estate was reportedly given to the royal couple by the Queen, and the family pays for the renovations and upkeep privately.
Unlike Prince William and Prince Harry who receive salaries from their jobs in the army, Kate Middleton does not have a regular job that would give her a steady income. In the birth certificate of Princess Charlotte, Kate Middleton's occupation was listed as "Princess of United Kingdom."
So, how does Kate Middleton spend her million-dollar income from the monarchy? The breakdown of the allowances given by Prince Charles was reportedly not available, so there's no clear way to conclude how much the Duchess spent for most women's biggest vice: wardrobe.
Despite the lack of a detailed breakdown to pinpoint how Kate Middleton spends her income, Celebuzz notes that aside from clothing, it is said that the allowance was put to paying staff and travel costs.
Prince Charles' official budget purportedly does not "cover the couple's personal staff - including nanny Maria Turrion Borrallo and new Anmer Hall housekeeper Sadie Rice," according to Simon Perry in his article in People.
"Much of the couple's major travel, to Australia and New Zealand, was covered by the countries they visited. But William's week-long tour to Japan and China in February and March cost $109,000 in scheduled flights, and he and Kate's trip to New York City in December came in at $26,600."
