Amy Schumer recently hit headlines as The Guardian cited a joke of hers where the plot was clearly racist. The lady took to Twitter to clarify her stand taking responsibility for what she had said and even apologizing.
Comedienne Amy Schumer has a loyal list of followers thanks to her brand of unapologetic jokes. However, the lady has also been drawn into a controversy because of one of her jokes. The joke in question was published in The Guardian and had a prominent racist angle to it, spiking a series of protest against her.
The joke is on the guys of the Latino community. According to reports on USA Today, the female comedian took to Twitter to clarify her stand in the controversy. In a tweet, the lady said that she was apologetic about her racist jokes and did not intend to hurt the sentiments of any community.
Previously, Amy Schumer had issued a lengthy statement in the end of June in order to clear the air with regards to the controversial joke. In this statement, she said that she's not racist and also agreed to joke about things that her audience might not have been comfortable with. However, this was not intentional and should be taken in the right spirit.
Her twitter response on Monday was more meek and apologetic coming after a tweet from Martine Joelle who asked her about the thought process that she invested to make a joke.
In another report on Time, Amy also said that she often played the dumb white girl character on stage but once she realized her responsibility towards her audience, she became more conscious about the jokes being cracked. This, she termed, was part of her evolution into a better artist.
The controversial joke was written by her two years ago. Through her tweet, the lady took responsibility of what she had said and hoped that no sentiments were hurt.
