For a journeyman, Jeremy Lin sure is lucky as Linsanity just went from Kobe Bryant to Michael Jordan.
The former Los Angeles Lakers point guard signed a two-year biennial exemption with the Michael Jordan-owned Charlotte Hornets for $4.3 million, according to the ESPN source as the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jeremy Lin is expected to run the second unit, behind Kemba Walker. It's the same role he had with his former teams, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and even the New York Knicks.
Although for a brief period under Mike D'Antoni, Jeremy Lin had an amazing run where he scored around 20 points and nearly 10 assists in what has come to be known as "Linsanity."
Last year, Linsanity was grounded as he averaged 11.7 points, 4.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 26.9 minutes, said ESPN.
Charlotte Hornets' Rich Cho said of Jeremy Lin, "The one thing he can really do is get into the paint and with our second unit that is important because he can create shots for others. We have several guys on the second unit that will benefit from that whether it's Jeremy Lamb or Spencer Hawes, Frank Kaminsky or Marvin Williams."
The Charlotte Observer, meanwhile, said that fans shouldn't expect Linsanity to be the savior of the Michael Jordan-owned franchise.
This is a risk worth taking for the Hornets, and hopefully it will be a good move for Lin too. He did not do well with the L.A. Lakers last season. But he can get into the paint, he can shoot the 3 and he is really good in the pick and roll.
Columnist Scott Fowler wrote, "I can see situations where Lin gets hot in the third quarter and Steve Clifford plays a hunch, leaves him in during the fourth and lets him play alongside Walker."
"Lin will basically take the roster spot of Mo Williams, and Clifford did that some with Williams when he got going."
