Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian have reportedly called it quits after the 4th of July weekend. And now, the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" family is purportedly adjusting to the finality of their breakup.
The reality TV couple has three kids together - Mason, 5, Penelope, 3, and Reign, 6 months. At a tender age, do the kids already feel the gravity of their parents' split and is the break up already affecting their emotional foundation?
Amid their personal issues as a couple, family psychologist Steven Ornstein says Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian must also prioritize their children's feelings.
"It is important to provide stability, patience and open communication for your kids when going through a divorce," Steven told Hollywood Life.
"Kourtney Kardashian should seek the help of a professional to fully understand how to explain to her young children why daddy hasn't been around. Remember, young children will feel betrayed and abandoned by the parent that is absent."
The breakup's effect on the kids may not be evident now, but it's purportedly bound to take its toll on their psychological well-being. What are the risks if Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian don't give enough attention to Mason, Penelope, and Reign's feelings amid their split?
"They may act out more than usual. It is imperative that neither one the parents bad-mouth each other in front of their children. You don't want your child to feel like they have to pick sides," Steven added.
"Scott's lack of communication with his children right now is hurtful, as the kids could very well take it personally. They may wonder what they did to make daddy leave."
"They may blame themselves. They need to be reassured that they are not the reason why daddy is not around, and that daddy still loves them very much."
According to Huffington Post, Scott Disick was reportedly spotted getting cozy with ex-girlfriend Chloe Bartoli in Monaco last week. The incident is believed to be the last straw for Kourtney Kardashian, triggering her to call it quits with Scott.
