Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will square off against John Dodson in a rematch in the main event of UFC 191 in Las Vegas.
Demetrious Johnson (22-2-1), who has become one of the world's greatest fighters pound-for-pound, apparently doesn't plan to slow down anytime soon. Since seizing the title, Johnson has taken on everybody, in fact, he has run out of worthy opponents to try and wrestle the title from him.
Johnson is slated to square off against John Dodson for the UFC flyweight title at UFC 191 Sept. 5 in Las Vegas. The 125-pound championship fight was announced by UFC officials on Wednesday, July 15.
The event will mark the second meeting between Johnson and Dodson, ESPN noted.
"The Magician" will attempt to become the first man to upset Johnson since Dominick Cruz in Oct. 2011. Dodson already lost to Johnson once at UFC on FOX 6 two-and-a-half years ago. Nevertheless, Dodson came the closest to stopping Johnson on his way to the pinnacle of the weight class.
Dodson rocked him in the first round but then dropped the champion in the second. However, Johnson bounced back and dominated Dodson down the stretch and won a decision.
"Mighty Mouse" has won five consecutive bouts since beating Dodson and he has gotten better with each passing battle. On the other hand Dodson has won three straight. His most recent outing was a lopsided unanimous nod over Zach Makovsky at UFC 187, according to reports on Sherdog.
The rematch between the two 125-pound combatants will mark the third rematch in Johnson's career. Johnson is yet to lose a second time he's fought someone. Dodson too is 2-0 as far as rematches are concerned.
In addition, UFC also announced a portion of the UFC 191 undercard on the UFC Fight Night 71 telecast, noting that a light heavyweight bout between former title challenger Anthony "Rumble" Johnson and Jan Blachowicz will be one of the featured bouts.
The promotion also announced a women's strawweight battle between Paige VanZant, who is fresh off a decision win over the popular Felice Herrig in April and Alex Chambers. A strawweight bout between John Lineker and Francisco Rivera was announced too on an earlier date.
