Though the One Direction member and his girlfriend Sophia Smith have been together for quite some time now, fans still had explosive reactions to express on social media. Unsurprisingly, th hashtag #SophiamIsEngaged trended world wide in no time.

With rumors of Liam Payne being engaged shaking up the world of 1D fandom, a thousand questions were posted by Directioners on social media such as how did Liam Payne propose to Sophia Smith?

"If the engagement rumors are true, this will be the second huge piece of One Direction news this week," Hollywood Life wrote. "The 1D fandom also exploded when news broke that Louis Tomlinson, 23, was expecting a baby with Los Angeles stylist, Briana Jungwirth, 23."

According to Mirror, though the hashtag #SophiamIsEngaged becaming trending on Twitter, even Directioners themselves had a hard time believing that Liam Payne is really engaged. In fact, some of them even mocked the hashtag and implied that other fans only want to start rumors about One Direction singers.

Meanwhile, it seems that Liam Payne only had a laugh about rumors that he's engaged to Sophia Smith who he has been dating since 2013.

According to OK! Magazine, Liam retweeted a fan's post that read "Zayn: slays NB, Harry: death threats, Louis: becomes a dad, Liam: gets engaged, Niall: #SophiamIsEngaged," refering to false rumors about One Direction. The 1D member added his own comment saying "I think this is my favorite tweet ever ahahahaha."

According to Hollywood Life's database, Sophia Smith is 27 years old. She reportedly met Liam Payne at St. Peter's Collegiate School in Wolverhampton, England. She was quoted saying: "I will always love Liam more than anything. I don't want to be famous or have any money. Being normal is more me."
