Several Korean media outlets recently commented on the lineup of handsome 30- and 40-something male actors in the upcoming fall and winter dramas. But the lineup also features several beautiful actresses with a fair share of drama experience.
Song Hye Kyo, 33, Kim Tae Hee, 35, Choi Ji Woo, 40, and Kim Hee Ae, 48 are all featured in the fall and winter lineup. And they all play characters facing a huge challenge.
Song Hye Kyo's new character must save lives in dangerous and difficult conditions. In "Descendants of the Sun," she plays the altruistic Dr. Kang Mo Yeon, who is stationed in a disaster zone. There she meets Captain Yoo Shi Jin, played by Song Jong Ki. He is assigned to the peacekeeping force, which creates some conflict, but ultimately their relationship becomes a romantic one. Song Hye Kyo's last k-drama "That Winter The Wind Blows" was a ratings success. "Descendants of the Sun" is set to air in late 2015.
Kim Tae Hee's heiress character in the currently running drama "Yong Pal" must escape from her nightmarish imprisonment in a hospital. The only person who may be able to help is a poor but unethical doctor who would do anything for money. During the first few episodes, Kim Tae hee mostly had her eyes closed and viewers are waiting to see what chemistry may conspire between her and the male lead, played by Joo Won. Although Kim Tae Hee is often acknowledged as the most beautiful woman in Korea, her last drama "Jang Ok Jung" did not do well in the ratings.
Kim Hee Ae's character in "Mrs. Cop" must balance the demands of an unpredictable job and being a mom. Kim Hee Ae plays a veteran police officer and a guilty working mom. Her character has to make difficult choices every day, but either her child or work suffers as a result. Kim Hee Ae won critical praise for her last role in "Secret Love Affair." In that drama she played the married but unhappy administrator of an arts organization. When she falls in love with a much younger piano prodigy, her glamorous life falls apart. Her new character is much less glamorous but she does get to carry a gun.
Choi Ji Woo's character in "Twenty Once Again" must challenge stereotypes when she returns to college at the age of 38. She attends the same college where her 20-year-old son is a student and her husband is a professor. Playing the mom-college-student in this drama will be a change from her last role as the adulterous CEO in the drama "Temptation." But the actress likes to switch it up. Before that she played a robotic traumatized housekeeper in The Suspicious Housekeeper."
Which one of these actresses are you most looking forward to seeing on the small screen?
