Andrew Garfield said he is happy for Tom Holland for being cast as the new Marvel superhero in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Emma Stone’s boyfriend said that he is not at all disappointed that he will no longer be reprising her role in the franchise.
"It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor," he told Entertainment Tonight.
"He was in this movie 'The Impossible' and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor. And [he's] a dancer, so his body's the right [form]," Garfield added.
The actor added that he is just happy that the pressure to earn big bucks in the box office has been lifted from his shoulders. Garfield shared that he is looking forward to seeing the "Spider-Man" reboot as a mere spectator.
"I'm just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it," he told the publication.
Meanwhile, comic book legend Stan Lee also had nothing but good words to say about Tom Holland being cast as the new Spider-Man. At the "Ant-Man" premiere, Lee admitted that he has yet to see Holland's previous works but said that he has heard good things about him.
"I don't know him intimately. In fact, I've never seen him [onscreen], but if [Marvel] picked him, I'm sure he's good!" he told Entertainment Weekly.
"I love the fact that there's another movie. It's great, it really is," he added.
The new "Spider-Man" reboot movie will focus on a 19-year-old Peter Parker which would make Holland a great choice for the lead actor. It was said that because the film is based on the Marvel superhero's adventure in his younger years, Andrew Garfield may just be too old for the role.
Tom Holland will make his debut as the new Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War," set to hit theatres in 2017.
