Because of its huge fan base, some theaters decided to extend its theatrical run until Aug. 17.
According to Anime News Network, the film earned 1.29 billion yen ($10.9 million) in its first six days of release. It also sold 1 million tickets during the first week. "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F" is also reportedly the first Japanese film to open in 3D IMAX Digital Theaters.
The film was also shown in over 1,000 theatres in US and Canada.
"We're grateful to all our fans for their tremendous response and support for the theatrical release of 'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F'," said FUNimation founder and CEO Gen Fukunaga, via Saiyan Island.
The CEO went on to add, "I am especially pleased to bring them the home video release so quickly after the theatrical run so they can enjoy the movie over and over again, just as we will."
