Many speculated that Ian Somerhalder's then engagement to Nikki Reed was the reason why Nina Dobrev left "The Vampire Diaries."

And now, is Ian Somerhalder leaving "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 because Nikki Reed wanted to end his association with Nina Dobrev and the show that brought their tandem to fame?

Rumors of Ian Somerhalder quitting was sparked by his recent social media posts about "The Vampire Diaries."

"The good old days... Look what was #1!!!!! Thank you for 6 years on the air!!!!" Ian Somerhalder captioned a photo of a screen with TVD listed as the number one among Top TV Shows.

He also posted a photo of him wearing Damon's costume.

"Damon Salvatore Season 1 hair/makeup/wardrobe test trailer self(ie) NoFilter," the actor wrote on Instagram.

Are these posts hinting of Ian Somerhalder's possible TVD departure?

"Ian's messages follow a growing theory that Somerhalder's character will be killed off in season 7 of 'The Vampire Diaries,'" Celeb Dirty Laundry wrote.

"Since the dynamic of Dobrev and Somerhalder's characters, Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore has ended, fans speculate Ian Somerhalder will quit to move on to new projects before the TVD ship sinks."

Last month, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed were noticeably absent in the Teen Choice Awards, sparking speculations that Nikki Reed allegedly banned her husband from attending the awarding ceremony.

The reason? One of the Teen Choice Awards' highlights each year is having the Choice TV: Liplock winners kiss on stage.

Was Nikki Reed still jealous of Nina Dobrev or did Ian simply didn't attend the awarding ceremony so as not to make a big deal out of the Choice TV: Liplock award?

Possibly to make things less awkward, the producers of the show decided to announce the Choice TV: Liplock award of "The Vampire Diaries" former co-stars along with Nina Dobrev's Choice TV actress award.
