"Dating Agency Cyrano," the new series about a dating agency that sets up romantic scenarios for its clients has some kpop credentials. Girls Generation's Choi Soo Young, known to her fans as Sooyoung, will play the leading female role. And the drama will also have a cameo appearance by SHINee's Lee Taemin.
The 16-episode drama is based on a webtoon that prequels the romantic comedy, "Cyrano Agency." The original title of the drama was "Flower Boy Dating Agency." It's the fourth tvN show in the Flower Boy series, which also included "Flower Boy Ramen Shop," "Flower Boys Next Door" and "Shut Up Flower Boy Band."
Sooyoung will play the role of Gong Min Young, a member of the dating agency, who often clashes with founder Seo Byung Hoon, played by Lee Joong Hyuk. Byung Hoon has opened the agency to make enough money to save a theater. Min Young romantically believes her client's feelings are more important than making money.
One of her clients will be a teen idol who is having a hard time romancing a female classmate. SHINee member Lee Taemin plays the idol and the agency helps him arrange a scenario to win his love.
The series will also feature cameo performances by Lee Yoon Ji, Im Hyung Joon, Ji Jin Hee, Lee Chung Ah and Choi Won Young. All of the cameo performances will be agency clients who need help because they have an awkward love situation.
At first, Sooyoung was a little intimidated at playing the lead female role but she got a lot of support from the cast and her fellow Girls Generation members.
"Thanks to everyone's help, I'm having a lot of fun filming," she said at a press conference for the show.
When asked if there was anyone in her girl group who could use the services of the agency, she said that she would choose Seohyun as the client.
"I think it would be fun to bring Seohyun into the agency," said Sooyoung. "She is so innocent."
So far, Sooyoung has appeared in the dramas "Unstoppable Marriage," "Hello Schoolgirl," and "Oh My Lady" with her bandmates Jessica and Hyoyeon. She also had cameo appearances in the dramas "Paradise Ranch" and "Gentleman's Dignity."
With that much acting experience, she will be able to offer both in-character love advice and some on-set acting advice to Taemin, who previously only appeared on "We Got Married."
