The process to find Buffalo Bills' quarterback is over. Coach Rex Ryan decided that Tyrod Taylor will be their next quarterback player.
On Monday, Coach Rex Ryan confirmed his decision, saying he had a 'change of heart' from his earlier statement about not allowing starters during the preseason.
According to ESPN, Rex Ryan said that his earlier decision was for their own good but in reality even he understands how things will work out. "I know people get bombarded," Coach Rex said. "I don't want our players being bombarded about who's getting reps, all this kind of stuff. ... I'll get that speculation over, and then we'll move forward," he added.
The 26-years-old American player Tyrod Taylor won quarterback by competing against EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel. Tyrod Taylor completed 24 of 31 passes for 236 yards in the preseason game.
Coach Rex also praised the player for his unpredictability and noted that the player is on top of what the team is doing. "When you have more rushing yards than Michael Vick at [Virginia Tech], that's pretty obvious that he has that ability," Ryan said.
Tyrod Taylor, EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel, and Matt Simms, all performed fabulously well in the Buffalo Bills' last preseason game on Saturday. With a joint 30-for-33 passing for 395 yards and three touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills stole the show.
After the preseason, EJ Manuel said that he have no regrets. He gave his best to the game and to his team. "Got an opportunity to go with the [first team] and did well. So that's how it goes," Manuel added.
Buffalo Bills is yet to confirm on backup quarterback. Ryan did not announce whether Manuel or Cassel would become a primary backup to Tyrod Taylor. However, he did say that the team could expect to keep three quarterbacks on the roster.
In March, Tyrod Taylor signed a three-year deal with Buffalo Bills. To void the deal, Taylor has to lay at least 50 percent of the offensive snaps in coming time. Buffalo Bills' quarterback Taylor can earn up to $2 million in playing time.
Not only are Buffalo Bills fans happy but even the Ravens are pleased with Ryan's decision. According to their official website, Ravens' Harbaugh congratulated the new quarterback. "I know we all believed that he could be that kind of player. He and I had that conversation many times. Congrats to him, and [I am] happy for Rex [Ryan] that he has him," Harbaugh added.
Buffalo Bills' Week 1 game is against Indianapolis Colts.
