"James Bond's" new author Anthony Horowitz reportedly made deragatory comments during his recent interview and fans have taken offence to it. Idris Elba wants to portray the iconic role of Bond but author Anthony Horowitz thinks that the actor is 'too street' to play a role like that.
Twitter users took Horowitz's comment about actor Idris Elba as a racial slur. The 42-years-old actor has been trying from a long time to play James Bond. Elba's work has been lauded in movies like, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Prometheus," "Obsessed," and "Pacific Rim."
The 60-years-old author Anthony Horowitz recently wrote "Trigger Mortis," a feature novel on James Bond and while promoting it he commented to Daily Mail, "For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too "street" for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah."
Although, in his comment Horowitz made it clear that it is not because of color. He said he could think of other black actors who were better suited for the role. Twitter users do not seem to agree with the "Trigger Mortis" author and accused him of hate speech.
Anthony Horowitz later released an apology clearing the air about his comment and his thoughts on Idris Elba:
The interview with Horowitz has raised questions about a "black" James Bond on the silver screen. When asked about the new Bond movie "Spectre," Horowitz boldly said that it is going to do base the movie on a family theme.
Anthony Horowitz had also stated that "Skyfall" is his least favorite among all the "James Bond" movies. In his new Bond novel, "Trigger Mortis," Horowitz will be showing James Bond in a totally different avatar. He will be making James Bond dumped by a woman this time around.
