Universal Pictures had plans to turn "Furious 7" into a new trilogy in the "Fast & Furious" franchise. Director, James Wan wanted the end for "Furious 7" to set up new events that would lead to the next movie. However, with Paul Walkers tragic death in 2013 had Universal Pictures rethinking their plans for the new trilogy. In the end, the studio decided that "Furious 7" would end with a heartfelt tribute to Paul Walker.
Universal Pictures is all set to make "Fast & Furious 8." According to the latest gossip, the studio wants to fill the void left by Paul Walker's character by a couple of reputable female leads. Stars like, Helen Mirren, Ruby Rose, and Angelina Jolie are tipped to play important roles in "Furious 8."
According to People, in an interview with "Late Night with Seth Myers," the 69-years-old British icon, Dame Helen Mirren expressed her wish to act in "Furious" films. When Entertainment Tonight asked Vin Diesel about Helen Mirren, the actor said that he is definite that he will be able to find someone so 'amazing' in his movies but he also made it clear that there are other stars under consideration.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Michele Rodriguez expressed that the next film should have a powerful presence. "Angelina Jolie, that would be sexy. That would be cool," Michele added.
Apart from the new cast, few stars from the earlier films are also going to reprise their roles in "Furious 8." According to Screenrant, Jason Stathom and Dwayne Johnson have already confirmed that they will be back in "Furious 8."
Meanwhile, "Orange is the New Black" star, Ruby Rose is also in the negotiating terms to play an important role in "Furious 8." According to the Daily Mail, before appearing in Netflix drama, "OITNB," Ruby Rose auditioned for "Furious 7." "My last audition before Orange was for Fast And Furious 7. But they didn't want me because one of the main guys said I looked like Justin Bieber!" Rose also said, "It's so funny because now I'm in talks with that movie and I haven't mentioned to them that I know [they turned me down because I looked like Justin]," she added.
"Furious 8" is slated to have an April 2017 release.
