When Epik High singer Tablo and actress Kang Hye Jang first met in a phone store, he managed to annoy her. Flying high with the success of his recent single "Fly," the singer was shopping for a phone upgrade.
He sat next to the actress in the store and noticed that she was carefully trying to put a screen protector on her phone. Thoughtlessly, he said, "Who bothers with those things anymore. That's so childish."
Wait. Doesn't this sound like the plot of a kdrama? Girl meets annoying guy, who she is initially put off by but yet they eventually fall in love.
The actress was definitely annoyed by his comments, so annoyed that she walked away.
Tablo did not recognize her at first but when a store employee told him who she was, he was mortified. He was a fan of her acting, having seen her in dramas and in films. He wondered if he should apologize.
Kang didn't recognize him either until a friend said, "That's Tablo, but he's acting so weird."
That weird behavior must have intrigued her because she decided she wanted to talk to the rapper and producer again.
They met for the second time over a casual dinner. That's when he decided she was the woman he was going to marry.
It took a while longer to convince Kang, who played Moon Jee Hoo in "Miss Ripley" and Yoo Gun Hee in "The Wedding Scheme," that he was the man she would marry. But she was interested in dating him.
The two quickly went public with their relationship. They shared a love of music so one of their favorite dates was to sing karaoke. She was so fond of Mariah Carey songs that he teased her by calling her Kang-a-riah.
Eventually Tablo persuaded her that they were meant for each other. The couple married in a private ceremony in 2009. At the ceremony, Kang said to her husband, "If in the far-off future someone were to ask me what my life's achievements were, I would say that it was the time I spent living by your side."
He responded by saying that she was his echo.
"When I first met you, I thought that it was as if all of the things I had shouted out into the world before knowing you had come back to me in your form," said Tablo, a.k.a. Lee Seon Woong.
The couple has a three-year-old daughter, named Haru Lee.
This year, Kang will appear in the film "Behind the Camera." In late 2012, Epik High made a comeback after a three-year break, releasing the single "It's Cold" with Kpop Star finalist Lee Hi.
