It's final. After much wrangling, Jordan Clarkson was excluded from the final 12 lineup of the Philippine national team that wants to qualify for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janiero.
That means the point guard, who had a breakout game last season, can focus on improving his game to help the Los Angeles Lakers get back to top form.
In a statement by the Philippine Basketball Association, the coaching staff and management did all they could to bring in Jordan Clarkson for the Philippine national team.
"We did all that we could to have Jordan Clarkson join Gilas for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship but we are saddened to report that we are not able to beat the deadline to secure the necessary clearances on time," it said.
The statement added, "Although we pushed the boundaries whenever possible, this process cannot be rushed if it were to be done properly. But we respectfully adhere to the schedules set by the Los Angeles Lakers whom SBP officials Ricky Vargas and Pato Gregorio met with to try to exhaust all possible options."
If Jordan Clarkson could not suit up for the Philippine national team, he can go back to being among the players that the Los Angeles Lakers can lean on this coming season.
"It's been quite a year for Clarkson, who went from being the No. 46 pick in the 2014 Draft to excelling late in his rookie season - enough to earn All-Rookie First Team honors," said the report. "He averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 assists, 4.6 boards and 1.0 steals, while shooting 47.9 percent from the field after the All-Star Break."
Lakers coach Byron Scott has been quoted as saying that Jordan Clarkson might be the starter to be paired with No. 2 pick, D'Angelo Russell, with Kobe Bryant sliding to forward this coming season as the team seeks to get out of the cellar.
