Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo have developed a close relationship over the years as they played husband and wife in "Grey's Anatomy."
But did Dr. Meredith Grey just diss Dr. Derek Shepherd in a recent interview? Did Ellen Pompeo just say that she doesn't need Patrick Dempsey to make "Grey's Anatomy" a hit show?
"It's like, Annalise Keating carries the show, Olivia Pope carries the show," Ellen Pompeo reportedly told Entertainment Weekly. "But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone."
"Why can't I just be the lead of the show the way Annalise and Olivia can? Why can't I be on that poster by myself," the actress added.
Despite fans' disappointment over Patrick Dempsey being killed off the show, some believe that "Grey's Anatomy" could still be a great show even without Derek Shepherd.
"She has a point - Meredith Grey wouldn't have lasted for 12 seasons if she wasn't a survivor," Hollywood Life wrote.
Ellen Pompeo referred to the other two Shonda Rhime shows in the TGIT (Thank God It's Thursday) block - Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis, on "How to Get Away With Murder," and Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, in "Scandal."
Amid Ellen Pompeo's statement, Patrick Dempsey has been proving that there's much in store for him in the entertainment industry after "Grey's Anatomy."
Patrick Dempsey is reportedly in talks to star in a "Bridget Jones's Diary."
"Dempsey is set to join Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in Working Title and Universal's sequel 'Bridget Jones's Baby,'" Variety reported.
"The story is based on columns written by 'Bridget Jones' creator Helen Fielding, though plot details remain vague apart from Zellweger's return as the title character and Firth's reprisal of his role as Mark Darcy."
This movie could be the perfect comeback project for Patrick Dempsey after "Grey's Anatomy." After all, the first two "Bridget Jones's Diary" films earned $281 and $261 million worldwide, respectively.
The third movie is expected to be a box office hit, under the direction of Sharon Maguire, who also directed the original film.
