Emma would be instrumental in how the audience will learn about the mythology of the Dark One as she becomes the Dark Swan herself, according to the latest spoilers for season 5 of "Once Upon a Time."
Previously, producers released a promo photo of Emma dressed in rags with Rumple clearly seen behind her smirking. The image was captioned, "If you're going to be the Dark One, gotta learn from the best."
Showrunner Edward Kitsis teased "Once Upon a Time" season 5 spoilers to Entertainment Weekly as he promised that all those questions will be answered in the premiere episode.
"Emma was sort of like Dorothy taking us to Oz in season one," he explained. "Emma is going to be taking us into the Dark One and the Dark One mythology, and we are going to learn this first half of the season who the original Dark One was, what made them tick, and why there is even a Dark One to begin with."
Co-showrunner Adam Horowitz chiemed in, "Emma becoming Dark Swan has been a great opportunity for us to explore who she is at her deepest levels and to see those traits exploded in a way. That's what the Darkness does to you. It takes who you are and twists it, and that's what we're going to see with Emma."
Previously, Jennifer Morrison said that Emma would be pushed to the breaking point this season.
"Emma went through a lot in her life," the actress said. "She had a tough childhood. She's had to overcome a lot of things. She's tried to be the bigger person. Now that she's tethered to the darkness, she's free of that ... She's going to face the darkness in herself and figure out how to overcome it."
Watch out for more "Once Upon a Time" season 5 spoilers here as ahead of the airing date on Sept. 27 on ABC.
