Game Of Thrones set a new record in the Emmy Awards' history by bagging 12 awards out of 24 nominations which is the maximum number of awards a series has won in a single year.
Game Of Thrones out-beat nine incredible competitors like AMC's Mad Men on Sunday night at Los Angeles and set a record by winning 12 awards of 24 nominations. It is to be noted that the renowned series broke the record of The West Wing, the series that won nine Emmy awards back in 2000, according to The Guardian.
In addition to 11 awards in various categories Game Of Thrones also won the most prestigious Best Drama series award. Peter Dinklage bagged Outstanding Supporting actor award, David Benioff and Dan Weiss for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and David Nutter for Outstanding Direction in a Drama Series.
The other awards include Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series, Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program, Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Sound Mixing for a Scripted Series, Sound Editing for a Series, Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Special Visual Effects and Casting for a Drama Series, reported Entertainment Weekly.
Benioff and Weiss thanked the entire cast and crew for making the most incredible thing happen as well as acknowledged HBO for "believing in dragons." Benioff also noted that he did not prepare for any speech and instead gave a shout-out to cheer other nominees, most importantly Better Call Saul's Jonathan Banks who was considered the most favourite for the award lately.
When Benioff was asked why Game Of Thrones finally won this year he said that "We knew that there would be some resistance at first to a show set in this genre ... we knew it would take a while."
He added "But we'd hoped if we did our jobs and if we were fortunate enough to be blessed with the cast and crew that we were blessed with ... and if we got lucky, that we'd get there eventually."
