Ian Somerhalder revealed that though his character Damon Salvatore won't be having a love interest in "Vampire Diaries" Season 7 he will have a woman in his life.
Damon will have Bonnie Bennett play an important role in his life while Damon's girlfriend, Elena Gilbert is linked with Kai Parker over a powerful spell. Bonnie, Elena and Kai are played by Kat Graham, Nina Dobrev and Chris Wood respectively, according to IB Times.
Somerhalder and Graham opened up with Just Jared Jr on the set in Atlanta about what fans can expect from them in "Vampire Diaries" season 7. Graham said that "We actually find her, Damon, and Alaric (Matt Davis) they are not in Mystic Falls." "By the time they get back, they have to deal with things in their own very interesting way," she added.
The trio will be on a trip to Amsterdam with of course little bit of resentment in the air. Somerhalder noted that every time Damon looks at Bonnie he sees not only her but Elena. Damon is put in an awkward situation in "Vampire Diaries" season 7 where he intends to protect Bonnie but not wholeheartedly. Damon is in the middle of a plot where if he just pushed Bonnie off a building, she would be gone once for all and his love Elena would be back. Damon cares for Bonnie as a friend but he is fond of Elena.
Meanwhile Graham explained Bonnie should be protected "not only just because he loves Bonnie, but he really, truly wants to protect her. Because if in any event, something happens to her, and Elena wakes up and it's 2016 or 2017 or even 2020, she's going to be pissed."
Graham added "Damon doesn't want to disappoint her...keeping her alive is a very, very layered and nuanced dynamic between Bonnie and Damon. He adores her and doesn't want anything to happen to her."
