Baek Ji Young, the singer known as the Queen of the OST, has had a year full of joy and sorrow. She married actor Jung Suk Won in a star-studded wedding early in June. The couple was happily expecting a child but then the singer suffered a miscarriage four months into her pregnancy.
While the singer is taking some time to recover from her tragic loss, she has always been amazingly resilient.
In 2008, she feared losing her voice due to a cyst on her vocal chords but after undergoing surgery to remove the cyst, her voice was stronger than ever. She came back with a seventh album and a ballad on that album hit number one on the online charts.
The singer has been implicated in a few personal and business scandals, causing her to temporarily withdraw from the public eye but she always managed to revive her career, turning out so many kdrama-related hits that she became known as the Queen of the OST. She contributed songs to the dramas "Iris," "Secret Garden," "The Princess' Man," "The Greatest Love," "Rooftop Prince" and "Arang and the Magistrate." Her most recent kdrama soundtrack contribution was the song "Spring Rain" for the hit drama "Gu Family Book."
Only a few weeks after her heartbreaking miscarriage, the singer is publicly expressing her support for Yoo Sung Eun, the "Voice Korea" singer that she mentored. This week she tweeted "Please listen to Yoo Sung Eun's song! It will be in the new album." She posted a link to the video.
Baek Ji Young served as a coach for the young singer when she appeared on "Voice Korea" and was visual director for Yoo Sung Eun's mini album.
And then thinking of her fans, she added an apology for making them worry about her miscarriage and thanked them for their concern.
This fall the singer will release the Japanese version of the "Iris" OST. It will be her second single album in Japan. The title song is "Don't Forget" and the album release was planned before the singer married.
The singer previously released a Japanese version of her song "That Woman" for the OST of "Secret Garden." She performed in Japan for the first time in May in a sold out concert.
When netizens learned of the singer's miscarriage they wished her strength. While Baek Ji Young thanked her fans for their concern, she has yet again demonstrated her inner strength by graciously taking time out from her own problems to support the singer she coached.
