Early in July when reporters asked Lee Min Jung about her impending wedding to actor Lee Byung Hun, they wanted to know if there was a reason the couple was suddenly making marriage plans. They had been dating off and on for seven years.
The actress confessed that although it was not a shotgun wedding, the sudden decision was perhaps more practical than romantic.
"Lee Byung Hun is so busy, he hasn't even proposed to me," said Lee Min Jung, who starred in "Big" and "All About My Romance" and is considering a role in a new drama "Medical Top Team."
In another interview Lee Byung Hun admitted that he was thinking about how he might propose to her.
"I wasn't able to properly propose to Lee Min Jung yet," he said. "I think it'll be okay, but I'm still thinking of what I should do. I don't want to do something too extravagant, but I want her to know how I truly feel in my heart."
As the couple plans to marry this weekend, he took his time coming up with a proposal plan. But when he did, it was perfect and much appreciated by his bride-to-be.
The actor, who starred in the drama "Iris" and the Hollywood blockbusters 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Red 2," made up for the delay by proposing to her in a very theatrical way.
He arranged for a special screening of "Red 2" for Lee Min Jung and her friends. But then at the end of the movie, he appeared on screen and talked about how much he loved her. Then he formally asked her to marry him.
It was the perfect proposal for two actors and the romantic gesture caused Lee Min Jung to burst into tears. Those who were present said that she was so touched by his gesture that she could not stop crying.
The couple will marry on Aug. 10 at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul. Although it was initially reported by their wedding planner that they had invited 1200 guests, the list now stands at around 900 guests. That's not considered a large amount for two actors who are so well connected. Some celebrity weddings have around 2,000 guests.
The couple plans to honeymoon in Southeast Asia then they both have plans to return to work shortly after the honeymoon. Lee Byung Hun will work on the film "Memories of the Sword."
