Will he or won't he? Reports say BigBang's T.O.P. is all set to star in the film "Tazza: The High Rollers 2," but his management agency, YG Entertainment says, not so fast. While the idol has been considering the role, nothing definite has been decided.
"We will release an official statement as soon as the facts are confirmed," said a YG representative.
The film is the sequel to the 2006 film, "Tazza: The High Rollers," also called "The War of the Flowers." The original film starred Jo Sung Woo in the leading role.
Casting for the "Tazza" sequel has been underway for months, with previous reports giving the role to Kim Soo Hyun who denied that he would appear in the film. Song Joong Ki was also a contender, but the actor is headed for military duty this year. If T.O.P., whose given name is Choi Seung Hyun, does agree to appear in this film, it would be in the leading role.
"Tazza: The High Rollers 2" is based on "The Hand of God," a four-part manga written by Heo Young Man. The story that the original film was based on focused on gambling drifters who play the Korean card game Hwatu or War of the Flowers. The film's main character Kim Goni has been cheated out of his life's savings by professional gamblers and learns how to gamble to take revenge. It was one of Korea's highest grossing films.
In "Tazza: The High Rollers 2," T.O.P. would play Ham Dae Gil, Kim Goni's nephew, who comes to Seoul and also gets involved with gamblers. The singer and rapper turned actor previously appeared as the heartless killer Vick in the drama "Iris" and also in the film version. He also recorded a song for the soundtrack with fellow BigBang members G-Dragon and Taeyang.
His film credits include playing Seo Jong Hun in "Nineteen" and Oh Jang Beom in "71: Into The Fire," a role for which he won a rookie award. In January he finished shooting the film "Alumni," in which he plays Myung Hoon, the son of a North Korean spy. "Alumni" is expected to premiere by the end of the year.
Kang Hyung Chul. The director of "Speedy Scandal" and "Sunny - 2010" will direct the sequel. Choi Dong Hoon directed the original "Tazza." Yoo Hae Jin and Kim Yoon Seok, who appeared in the first movie, will also act in the sequel.
