The fourth season of "Sherlock Holmes" is on the verge of cancellation due to Benedict Cumberbatch's other commitments, according to Franchise Herald. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, both famous British actors, play lead roles in the series. But currently due to their busy schedule, the filming of the fourth season of the television series is in the air.
The executive producer of the series, Steven Moffat, recently revealed in an interview with Variety, that "Sherlock Holmes" series may be cancelled due to lack of dates from the lead characters, reported RealtyToday.com.
Steven revealed that the main character of the "Sherlock" series cannot be changed at all unlike the characters in his other series "Doctor Who." "It's a television predator designed to survive any environment because you can replace absolutely everybody. Most shows you can't do that with. They have a built-in mortality like Sherlock series," said Steven, as quoted by The Variety.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Moffat said that only Benedict can portray the investigative character of "Sherlock." Steven said that if Cumberbatch decides of leaving the show because of his other commitments, then the only option left with him would be to shut the show down. He said that Benedict and Martin both make connect with their characters very easily and bring out the best.
Recently during the "Commander of the British Empire Award" ceremony, Benedict was honored with "CBE" for his services to arts and society. He said after the program that he would be delighted to work as "Sherlock" always as the character has given him a worldwide recognition for which he will remain indebted always, reported Franchise Herald.
Cumberbatch is currently busy with "Doctor Strange" role for the upcoming Marvel movie. Even, Freeman is also busy with various film projects at present. The filming for the next season will possibly begin early next year somewhere in spring and the fourth season will be aired in the year 2017.
