"A Charlie Brown Christmas," animated series based on the life of a small boy, Charlie Brown, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, according to Forbes.

To mark this occasion, ABC aired a special screening for the cartoon show on Monday, November 30. The host of the one-hour long episode was Kristen Bell, Hollywood actress and singer. The show also featured "Pentatonix," Cappella group and Kristin Chenoweth, stage and theater actor, who played a cameo role in "The Peanuts Movie," reported Gospel Herald.

The first episode of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was aired in December 1965, in California and narrated the Christmas story in a very different way. Vince Guaraldi, musician provided a wonderful jazz music to the cartoon series.

According to Korea Times, the program showcased a full Christmas episode, where Charlie Brown is shown to be having holidays. At the start of the program, it was shown that Charlie is searching his mailbox for letters. When he comes to know that there are no letters for him, he gets upset over the holiday season and feels that no one thinks about him or likes him.

The character of "Charlie Brown" has always been the one who never gives up, no matter what. Charlie Brown has been portrayed as a lonely kid, who doesn't feel the happiness of the holiday season. He feels empty on the inside, as he doesn't know the true meaning of Christmas, reported USA Today.

The whole episode on Christmas shows a gloomier side of the holiday season when people are too busy shopping or planning things that they forget to spend time with their family members.

The series also emphasizes on the good old days of childhood and the little joys of playing in the neighborhood, in snow-clad playgrounds.

Charles Schulz, writer of the series, has very effectively caught the commercialization of the holidays. Through his writings, he has also emphasized on the feelings of loneliness during the holidays.

The "Peanuts movie," recently released in October, includes lead characters from the television show. The movie also reflects the past generation, where small kids used to play on the snow outside and were not indoors busy with electronic gadgets.
