Kylie Jenner invites trouble posing for a photo in a wheelchair for Interview magazine.
The reality star Kylie Jenner recently took part in a photo shoot for Interview magazine, in which one of the photos was featuring Jenner in a wheelchair. While the wheelchair photo received negative comments from many users on social media Ophelia Brown, a 12th grader at Merivale High School, Ottawa, responded to Jenner much harder way, according to CBC News.
"@KylieJenner wow being in a wheelchair is so fun and fashionable! #Ableism is the ultimate fashion statement!" wrote Brown on Jenner's post, reported Ottawa Citizen. Brown's message was retweeted about 25,000 times and liked by 26,500 users. The issue was also covered by many major news channels like Huffington Post, BBC News, Today, New York Daily News and so on.
Brown who is a differently abled person on wheelchair blasted at Kylie Jenner's Interview magazine photo that being on wheelchair isn't fashionable. The 17-year-old is shocked at the way her tweet went viral on the internet and pleased at the support she received from tens of thousands of compassionate users.
"Having an able-bodied person pose in a wheelchair like it's a fashion accessory, it trivializes the concept of a wheelchair," Brown told CBC News in an interview at her school on Thursday.
The teen noted on Kylie Jenner's Interview magazine photo that a wheelchair is not a property or a fashion accessory. She added that the wheelchair is not something that she wants but it is an inextricable need that aids her mobility and helps her function on day to day basis.
"Standing up to ableism is one of the most important things to me now because I know that this fight for me and for more disabled people, it's going to be for my entire life," said Brown. "So I might as well get started fighting now and fighting for my rights because this is going to be a lifelong battle for me," she added.
