Samsung announced earlier this week an optimized browser for its virtual reality headset, the Internet for Gear VR beta version. It is the most recent virtual reality service with a strengthened VR content ecosystem.
It allows users to browse the Internet and enjoy content in a more immersive manner without the need to download content, said Samsung Newsroom.
VP Product Strategy Team, IT & Mobile Communications Business at Samsung, Chan-Woo Park said the company continues to provide users with "a fully immersive mobile experience in the evolving world of virtual reality.
As the demand for 360-degree, immersive video content rapidly rises - Samsung Internet for Gear VR further enriches the VR content ecosystem for our consumers, setting an industry standard for the VR viewing experience."
Users can now enjoy various online content by simply browsing the Web, thanks to Samsung Internet for Gear VR beta. It supports 3D video, 360-degree streaming and HTML5 video. Internet VR also provides voice recognition with on-screen keyboard. Users can select menus by just gazing at them with the Gaze Mode.
The app likewise can import bookmarks from Samsung Internet for Android. It also has Tab Manager, Quick Access and Bookmarks features.
The Samsung Internet for Gear VR beta version is available for download starting Dec. 2 in the Oculus Store. Devices supported are Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note 5 with Gear VR.
With the Samsung Internet for Gear VR beta, people can now check their emails or Facebook news feed. There is no need for an app when users of Galaxy S6, Note 4 or 5 with Samsung VR want to do some Net browsing or video streaming on YouTube.
As among the VR pioneers said TechTimes, this is Samsung's big step forward so it maintains its impressive position in the virtual reality sphere. The browser is a great follow-up of the Gear VR's early success.
