The "Fifty Shades of Grey" director, Sam Taylor Johnson, is all set to direct a thriller based on the 1969 Chappaquiddick Incident, involving late US senator Ted Kennedy.

The English filmmaker, who was directing the sequel of the flick, "Fifty Shades of Grey," previously this year, has given up the project due to creative differences with the author E.L. James and taken up the Chappaquiddick movie. Sam Taylor Johnson has switched from erotic romantic drama genre to directing a real life political thriller.

"Directing Fifty Shades of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful," said Johnson while leaving the project. "I have (studio) Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with (stars) Dakota (Johnson) and Jamie (Dornan)," she noted, according to TV3.

"While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three," added the 48 year old director.

Sam Taylor Johnson's latest project is based on the true incident that happened at Chappaquiddick Island relating to US Senator Ted Kennedy. He was involved in a dreadful car accident that caused the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker of Robert Kennedy.

The movie will focus on the seven dramatic days in the life of Kennedy following the accident. The chronicles involve his fight to pursue his ethical boundaries and, at the same time, saving his family's honor including following his political ambitions of campaigning for the seat of US President, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

As per the reports, after the tragic car accident that took place on Jul. 18, 1969, Kennedy drove the car off the bridge and reported about the accident several hours later. Kopechne died in the car drowning and her body was recovered on 19th July. The incident was a massive national disgrace, the outcome of which being Kennedy getting a 2 months jail sentence and later preventing him from campaigning for the seat of US President, reported Xpose.
