A reporter has come forward with what he says will explain the dating rumors between singer-actress Suzy Bae and actor Sung Joon, but whether his explanation will change anyone's opinion of the incident is a matter of opinion.
According to the reporter, he just happened to see the famous couple at the same time as someone snapped the infamous photo of them in a friendly pose.
Speaking on the SBS show "Midnight TV Entertainment," the reporter offered his interpretation of the scandal-provoking events.
"I was just finishing another interview and saw the pair by chance," he said. "Suzy and Sung Joon were seated side by side exchanging looks at a Japanese restaurant in Cheongdamdung and they looked pretty happy."
The reporter stuck around to see what might happen next and was still there when the couple left the restaurant. From his observations, he decided that the much-talked-about photo of Sung Joon placing his arm around Suzy's shoulder was merely a friendly protective gesture.
"After leaving the wine bar, Suzy looked around trying to determine her surroundings. Sung Joon emerged soon after her and seemed to know what she was thinking."
Uh-huh. That could be because the two are so close they know what the other person is thinking. Or it could just be a coincidence.
"He placed his arm around her to reassure her, like a personal bodyguard, while Suzy had his hand in hers," said the reporter.
You might say that he was acting just like the personal bodyguard Gon that he played to Suzy's character Dam Yeo Wool in "Gu Family Book." Gon was her character's shadow following her and fighting for her wherever she went.
"That's probably what led to questions about whether the two are dating," said the reporter.
Probably. But it doesn't explain why Suzy took Sung Joon's hand.
Both Suzy's management, JYP Entertainment and Sun Joon's agency denied the rumors, saying they were just friends and colleagues, but crew members on the set of "Gu Family Book say they saw the couple growing closer.
They may not be dating just yet but they are obviously fond of each other and he is so fond of her that he feels he needs to protect her.
Or maybe he just enjoyed playing her bodyguard so much that it's hard to shake off the role. It was the first time the two had a role in the same drama. He previously appeared as an indie rock band leader in "Shut Up Flower Boy Band," while Suzy, a member of the girl group miss A, has appeared in "Dream High" and "Big."
