1. Old Boy (2003)
This film is one of South Korea's classic films. This Park Chan Wook film has similarities with Parasite. This won the Grand Prix of 2004 Cannes Film Festival. This is about a man named Oh Dae Su (Choi Min Sik) who was kidnapped and kept locked inside a hotel room for 15 years. When he escaped, he met a girl and searched for the man who trapped him.
2. Memories of Murder (2003)
This film is based on serial murders that happened in South Korea. The film is a story of 2 detectives played by Kang and Kim Sang Kyung. They work together to investigate and find the culprit of rape and murder cases that occurred between 1986 and 1991. The movie is an adaptation of a 1996 stage play by Kim Kwang Rim.
3. The Host (2006)
The movie is about the amphibians that became monsters when bottles of formaldehyde polluted the Han River. A man named Park Gang Du (played by Bong movie regular Song Kang Ho) was delivering food when a monster came out of the river and abducted his daughter (Go Ah Sung). This movie became South Korea's highest-grossing film and one of Bong's best work.
4. The Mother (2010)
Won Bin plays the role of a mentally challenged man who was accused of killing a child. He only has his mother by his side while the whole world is against him. Kim Hye Ja plays the role of a mother who believes his son is not capable of killing and will do anything to prove that his son is innocent.
5. The Handmaiden (2016)
This film is packed with suspense for its viewers. It was nominated for the Cannes Palme d'Or in the year 2016. This is a screenplay adaptation of Sarah Waters' crime novel. The film's story revolves around a rich woman played by Kim Min Hee who was lured by a con man Count Fujiwara (Ha Jung Woo). He asked the help of a pickpocket to get Lady Hideko to fall in love with him.
