"I saw '82 Kim Ji-young' through a technical preview fully explained the reason why I thought I wanted to appear. It was satisfying and I felt fortunate. It also took a universal approach to the landscape of an era that was raised as a man, educated and taken for granted. However, I came to understand that women and men have different views of each other, and after watching the movie, I began to reflect on them." Actor Gong Yoo said.
The film "Kim Ji-Young, born 1982" tells a story about Kim Ji-Young, to be played by Jung Yu-Mi, and Gong Yoo plays as her husband Jung Dae-Hyun. Gong Yoo worked together for the third time with Jung Yu-Mi and he described her as a "very comfortable friend and colleague." He was embarrassed, saying he was close to Yu-Mi but was not good at praising each other.
"First I thought of my family, then I was ashamed. But I thought there must have been a lot of things I don't know, although I'm not old enough. My heart for my stepmother and father came to me differently. I think our parents who lived in different generations raised us with the idea of teaching our children despite their various backgrounds and social sentiments. There was a feeling of gratitude for that." Gong Yoo said as he read the script for the film.
Gong Yoo will showcase and challenge himself using his dialect for the first time through "Kim Ji-Young, Born in 1982." As his hometown is Busan, his self-esteem would be hurt if he was criticized for his dialect. Gong Yoo said. "I lived in Busan for 20 years and moved to Seoul for 20 years. I paid a lot of attention to using dialects in the drama and many staff that we work with are from Gyeongsang-do and still, they can speak with dialect."
Watch "'Kim Ji Young, born 1982," starring Gong Yoo and Jung Yu-Mi as they appear again in theaters nationwide this coming 23rd of October.
