I suddenly saw the one-way sign and put on my emergency lights. While I was trying to park on the pavement of a closed restaurant, the back wheels of my car did not quite make it on to the pavement. At this time, I slightly hit the passenger side of the victim's car and caused the accident."
On October 19th, Chae was sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of probation for drunk driving charges. The court in the Seoul Central District also ordered 40 hours of defensive driving class and 120 hours of community service.
The actress hit a stopped car while driving in a reversed direction on a one way street in Gangnam District. The driver of the victim's car was injured in need of two weeks of healing. Her blood alcohol content level was 0.063 percent, a level requiring license suspension.
The court gave the verdict in consideration that Chae is sincerely regretting and the victim's injury was not too serious. It stated, "The victim's car was in a stopped state and the defendant was driving at a slow speed, so the damage from the accident was minimal. We also took into account the fact that the defendant's blood alcohol content level was not very high." However, the prosecutor disagreed with the sentence and appealed.
